What does sport have to do with farmers? Nothing really. But then so much if you dive in. We celebrated welcoming our 4th sport in Mumbai this weekend with the introduction of a Badminton Game day at the hallowed grounds of YMCA, where incidentally, the weekly Farmer’s Market is hosted by ‘Conscious Foods’ legend and organic advocate Kavita Mukhi.
This was such a special one for us. A collaboration between Sisters in Sweat and the Original Bandra Farmers Market where all women - shoppers, athletes, children and seniors came together and truly lived up to the spirit of Sisters in Sweat, with sport and wellness at the core of it all.
Playing a sport, be it for recreational or professional goals, has got to be one of the best ways to stay active, becoming a part of a community of women in sport and spending a weekend doing something fun and enjoyable! And the best part about it is that there is no limitation to age, current fitness level or level of expertise required. So all you need to do is dedicate that one hour to yourself and just come out and play!
And on Sunday, just as you entered the YMCA grounds, we were greeted by the sight of colourful banners hand-written with ‘organic’, ‘food is medicine,’ ‘health is wealth,’ and other such classic quotes, and as we walked further up, the fragrance of fresh herbs, fruits and vegetables lured us towards all the farmers’ stalls and their freshly harvested produce. Bang in the middle of it all, the badminton court was all set for a women's doubles game, with Juicy Chemistry goodies for the winners and Kambucha and Chaas for hydration - all in all promising to be one of the best Sunday mornings with Sisters in Sweat.
And what a day it was! Sanjana Sanjay and Sophiya, daughter of our member Rukaiya Kanchawala, had a great rally! Shreya Jaipura and Niddhi put up a good fight and Shukti Trivedi and Stacy Prince made sure to give each other and spectators a run for their money. Sahitra Ghurye, was our referee for the day and eventually proclaimed Sanjana and Sophiya as the winners for the highest scores of the day. Overall, the doubles baddy game was competitive, but with a lot of fun and banter with members cheering each other on.
Everyone enjoyed hanging out at the organic cafe at the end of the game day and gorging on all the delectable dosas and crepes and sandwiches and more! The magic of collaboration and cross pollination of ideas, women entrepreneurs exchanging stories on food, shopping for organic groceries after a fabulous game day - all of it made it one of the best Sundays ever spent with the sisters together!
